This is the 1951 Ferrari 212 Export – Villa d’Este 2025

During the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este I filmed this 1951 Ferrari 212 Export. Only 27 Ferrari 212s were built on the ?export? competition chassis. The export version of the 212 was initially intended for GT racing. The successor to the 195 Sport was fitted with a further developed V12 engine designed by Gioachino Colombo, and an increased capacity of 2.6 litres now packed around 165 hp. The wheelbase of just 2.25 metres remained unchanged compared to the 195 Sport. Most of the chassis were produced either by Carrozzeria Touring or Vignale in Turin. 13 chassis were bodied by Vignale and this particular one received a rather luxurious convertible body. In fact, this cabriolet was one of only two examples ever built. Like almost every early Ferrari, this 212 Export has some unique design details that set the car apart from its siblings even though they were created by the same coachbuilder. A notable detail is the radiator grille pattern typically featured in early Ferraris. The cruciform grille is made of vertical and horizontal thin metal strips and creates the impression of a rectangular design. This car features a wide chrome surround for the radiator grille with a vertical chrome strip set within a second chrome frame of the same shape. A centre strip with a wide horizontal bar encases the fog lights as a stylistic detail penned by Giovanni Michelotti for this Vignale body. The car was delivered new to Count Sanseverino in Naples, Italy, and found its way to England in 1961. The sports car was purchased by David Clarke, who held stewardship of the Ferrari over the next 40 years. In 2023, the 212 was fully restored to factory specification and taken back to the period-correct Carminio red hue with a fine metallic flake. The interior was upholstered in complementary tan leather. Join my Notification Squad: click the Bell ?
