Maserati A6GCM Interim (1953) – 200bhp 2-liter in-line six-cylinder engine Warm-Up, Sound Action!

I've filmed this fascinating 1953 Maserati A6GCM Interim during a few editions of the Vernasca Silver Flag hill climb for historic cars. I don't know the racing history of this model, even if it has writings on the bodywork that suggest a racing past in Latin America. It's an "Interim" model, also known as A6SSG, which prefigures the next model, the 250F. Some of the last examples of the A6GCM produced in late 1952 and 1953 were converted in 1954 to the 250F. The 2-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine in this newest version reaches the power of around 200bhp to move a weight of only 570kg. The chassis was also modified and transformed into a tubular with a lattice structure very resistant to torsional stresses. The brakes are drum brakes with hydraulic control, while the suspensions are at the rear with a rigid axle with cantilever-type leaf springs and at the front with helical springs. From 1951 to 1953, 12 specimens were built, participating in 151 competitions; 81 races ended with 23 podiums and 6 Grand Prix victories. Non conosco la storia agonistica di questo modello anche se sulla carrozzeria riporta scritte che fanno pensare ad un passato di corse in America Latina. Si tratta di un modello "Interim" conosciuto anche con la sigla A6SSG che prefigura il modello successivo, la 250F. Alcuni degli ultimi esemplari della A6GCM prodotti alla fine del 1952 e nel 1953, furono convertiti nel 1954 nella 250F. Il motore a 6 cilindri in linea da 2 litri in questa ultima versione raggiunge la potenza di circa 200bhp per muovere un peso di soli 570kg. Anche il telaio fu modificato e trasformato in tubolare con una struttura a traliccio molto resistente agli sforzi torsionali. I freni sono a tamburo con comando idraulico mentre le sospensioni sono al posteriore ad assale rigido con molle a balestra di tipo cantilever ed all'anteriore a molle elicoidali. Dal 1951 al 1953 furono costruiti 12 esemplari che in totale parteciparono a 151 competizioni; terminarono 81 gare con i rsultati di 23 podi e 6 vittorie nei Gran Premi.
