George Russell drives the 1924 Mercedes-Benz Rennwagen Targa Florio – Trofeo Bandini 2024, Faenza

The Mercedes-AMG F1 Petronas driver, the British George Russell, was awarded the 2024 edition of the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy. We are in the city of Faenza (Italy), and the event committee chose Russell with the following motivation: "One of the most valid and promising drivers of the Circus, distinguished for his determination and constant commitment to excellence". The trophy is a tribute to the Italian driver Lorenzo Bandini, who died in a tragic accident at the 1967 Monte Carlo GP. This event is now in its 31st edition and is well-known internationally. Many drivers have been awarded, and before him, over the years, other Britons have received this recognition: David Coulthard (1995), Jenson Button (2001), Lewis Hamilton (2010) and Lando Norris (2023). I had the pleasure of seeing and filming George Russell in Piazza del Popolo in Faenza on the afternoon of Wednesday, 15th May. On this occasion, the Briton got behind the wheel of the splendid 1924 Targa Florio-winning Mercedes-Benz Rennwagen driven by Christian Werner. Mercedes' classic car department in Stuttgart restored the car beautifully, so after 100 years, the car is back in its original condition. George Russell could use it in the Faenza-Brisighella route to reach the Rocca Manfrediana, where the prize awarded by the jury was waiting for him. In addition, a large audience of enthusiasts was present to welcome him festively. Enjoy! ? Il trofeo e' un'omaggio al pilota italiano Lorenzo Bandini scomparso nel tragico incidente del Gp di Montecarlo del 1967. Questa manifestazione e' giunta alla 31esima edizione ed e' molto conosciuta a livello internazionale. Tanti piloti sono stati premiati e prima di lui, negli anni, altri britannici hanno ricevuto questo riconoscimento: David Coulthard (1995), Jenson Button (2001), Lewis Hamilton (2010) e Lando Norris (2023). Ho avuto il piacere di vedere e filmare George Russell in Piazza del Popolo a Faenza nel pomeriggio del giorno Mercoled? 15 Maggio. In questa occasione il britannico si e' messo al volante della splendida Mercedes-Benz Rennwagen vincitrice della Targa Florio del 1924 all'epoca guidata da Christian Werner. Il reparto vetture classiche di Mercedes a Stoccarda ha restaurato magnificamente la vettura e cos? dopo 100 anni l'auto e' tornata nelle condizioni originali. George Russell ha potuto percorrere il tragitto Faenza-Brisighella per raggiungere la Rocca Manfrediana dove ad attenderlo c'era il premio rilasciato dalla giuria.
