The next generation 2017 G31 BMW 5-Series Touring was spotted in Germany during some testing trials out on the Nrburgring race track. Despite its heavy camouflage, the prototype reveals the overall proportions of the new premium touring. We expect the 5-Series range to continue the design lines of the current F10/F11 generation, a soft rounded layout that it is immediately appealing to mass customers. We do anticipate some of the current BMW design features to trickle their way into the 5-Series looks as well, starting with the headlights flowing into the kidney grille and the dynamics side panels. The front and rear bumper will certainly be bumped a notch in sportiness as well.The taillights also get a redesigned and they look sleeker and longer than the current F10 generation. The G31 BMW 5-Series Touring is built on BMW?s next generation platform called ?35up?, a codename for a new platform that will bring lightweight materials and construction to mass production cars. CFRP will play an important role here. Powertrains will include a selection of four cylinder 2.0-litre engines and 3.0-litre inline-six gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a hybrid drivetrain based on the one seen in the X5 eDrive Concept.
