2024 Peugeot 9×8 LMH Le Mans Hypercar with Rear Wing – Racing Actions Sound at Imola WEC stage

During the second round of the 2024 FIA WEC championship, the 2024 Peugeot 9x8 LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) equipped with a rear wing debuted on the Imola circuit. The French manufacturer had amazed everyone both in the tests and in the 2023 season, creating a sports prototype without any prominent wing on the back, unique in its kind, compared to the traditional choice adopted by all the other manufacturers. It was clear that thinking of generating all the maximum downforce values ??prescribed by the WEC LMH regulation only from the bottom was a risky choice. So, after two years of results not up to expectations, the 9x8 model was also approved with a large aerodynamic appendage, which has a lower profile than its competitors. This change forced Peugeot engineers to redesign the car almost entirely, modifying 90% of the bodywork components in search of a new balance of the 9X8 to remain within the maximum "window performance" values ??required by the regulations. The tyres have also been modified by adopting 34-centimetre tyres at the rear compared to the 31-centimetre ones previously mounted. Compared to cars with wider rear tyres, the Peugeot lacked traction, especially in slow corners. The chassis, windshield, doors, and upper air intake have not changed. At the same time, various engine components, electronics and cooling systems have been lightened or repositioned. This resulted in the car being homologated again. We will find out during the 2024 season whether the changes made are the right ones to make it competitive. Mechanically, the car uses a 2.6-litre V6 Twin-Turbo engine capable of developing 670 bhp (520 kW) moved by a 7-speed sequential gearbox. Enjoy! ? Durante la seconda tappa del campionato FIA WEC 2024 ha fatto il suo debutto sul circuito di Imola la versione 2024 della Peugeot 9x8 LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) dotata di ala posteriore. Il costruttore francese aveva stupito tutti sia nei test, sia nella stagione 2023, realizzando una sport prototipo senza nessuna evidente ala sul retro, unica nel suo genere, rispetto alla scelta tradizionale adottata da tutti gli altri costruttori. Era evidente che pensare di generare tutti i valori di deportanza massima prescritti dal regolamento WEC LMH solo dal fondo era una scelta azzardata. Cos? dopo 2 anni di risultati non all'altezza delle aspettative anche il modello 9x8 viene omologato con una grande appendice aerodinamica che pero' ha un profilo piu' basso rispetto a quello delle concorrenti. Questo cambiamento ha costretto gli ingenieri Peugeot a ridisegnare la vettura quasi nella sua interezza modificando il 90% delle componenti della carrozzeria alla ricerca di un nuovo bilanciamento della 9X8 per restare dentro i valori massimi di "window performance" richiesti dal regolamento. Anche gli pneumatici sono stati modificati passando ad adottare gomme da 34 centimetri al posteriore rispetto a quelli da 31 centimetri montati precedentemente. Rispetto alle auto con le gomme posteriori piu' larghe la Peugeot mancava di trazione, specialmente nelle curve lente. Solamento telaio, parabrezza, portiere e la presa d?aria superiore sono le uniche parti che non hanno subito modifiche, mentre diversi componenti del motore, dell?elettronica e dell?impianto di raffreddamento sono stati alleggeriti o riposizionati. Questo ha comportato nuovamente l'omologazione della vettura. Scopriremo nel corso della stagione 2024 se i cambiamenti apportati saranno quelli giusti per renderla competitiva.
