1975 Ferrari 365 GTB4 Competizione going SIDEWAYS on the ICE

During The ICE at St. Moritz, Switzerland, I have filmed this 1975 Ferrari 365 GTB4 Competizione. One of the very last Daytonas produced, this car with chassis n. 16717 was sold new as a regular production road car to Jacques Swaters? Ecurie Francorchamps in 1975. Probably never registered for the road, it was immediately converted to Group 4 specification. Liveried in Belgian racing yellow, it was soon after entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Jean-Claude Andruet and Teddy Pilette, who finished 12th overall. Although retained by Swaters until the early 1980s, it was not raced in contemporary events again. Its subsequent French owners have extensively campaigned the Daytona in historic events during the last two decades. ?Daytona? was not an official name for Ferrari?s roadgoing 365 GTB/4, merely a moniker adopted by the media in honour of the scuderia?s 1-2-3 finish in the ?67 edition of the Floridian 24-hour endure. Caving to demand for its customers racing teams to take the fight to the armada of Porsches in the GT classes, Ferrari?s Assistenza Clienti department built only 15 official 365 GTB/4 Competizione in three series of five cars per year. The Group 4 Daytona became so successful that a further eight conversions were produced privately in period. This chassis, number 16717, was the only to be built by an authorised Ferrari importer, namely Garage Francorchamps of Brussels, Belgium. Delivered new to team owner Jacques Swaters in 1973, and sporting a deliciously 1970s ?Marrone Met 106.M.73? paint finish, the car was soon stripped and resprayed in the ecurie?s traditional colours of Belgian racing yellow. Preserved ever since, the red-accented Luchard livery on the body you see today is the very same applied by the team in 1975 for its successful appearance at Le Mans.
