1963 AC Cobra 289

During The ICE at St. Moritz, Switzerland I have filmed this 1963 AC Cobra 289. 39 PH was built by AC Cars for drivers Ninian Sanderson and Peter Bolton to campaign at the 1963 Le Mans 24 hrs. It was sponsored by the Sunday Times, backed by Carroll Shelby and managed by Stirling Moss. One of two 289 Cobras entered, 39 PH was the first to cross the line coming 7th overall and 1st in class ? the best result ever for a 289 Cobra at Le Mans. 39PH was then purchased by John Willment?s race team, upgraded to 1964 race spec and campaigned by Jack Sears. They had a notable run of results including the famous ?Black Flag Race? at Brands Hatch. Due to a mistake by race officials, 39 PH started from the pits, but with the whole crowd behind him, Sears got up to fourth position after five laps and eventually overtook Jackie Stewart?s lightweight E-Type on lap 15 to win. Recently campaigned in historic racing including in the Goodwood RAC TT with drivers Dario Franchitti and Sam Hancock, and at Le Mans Classic 2022 where 39PH came 9th.
